What
can we do that most other instructional designers
can't?
Storytorials - Training
with Storytelling
We
can change your training into a dramatic experience,
complete with suspense, music and action. And
by using interactive technologies, the learner
can become part of the story as well.
Recently,
there has been a growing recognition in the value
of storytelling for training in general, and for
e-learning in particular. We now have the term
"storytorial," tutorials with stories. Yet most
training developers still have not tapped fully
into the power of storytelling; I have long experience
creating stories, and I have been using them for
over 7 years of developing e-learning.
Storytelling
involves more than just adding a dramatization,
which is only one form of a story. It consists
of an entire approach to training, molding the
learning content into its own story.
Visual
Language
With
younger generations of visually-oriented learners
and multi-cultural audiences that span the globe,
visual communication has become more and more
essential in training and education.
An
image or symbol can get the point across far more
rapidly than words. Employing a visual language
will make your e-learning immeasurably more effective.
Visual
communication has been my emphasis ever since
I started developing instruction more than eight
years ago. What others communicated via words
and text, I have communicated with imagery thoughout
my career.
Storytelling + Visual
Language = High-Impact Learning
The
visual storytelling approach, combined with interactivity,
is the most effective way to produce training.
